I'm in northern Iowa and just finished the second cut on my hay field. The fence rows are loaded with thistle, honeysuckle and some small trees. I've always used Crossbow but I'm open to trying something cheaper if it still protects the grass. My cousin swears by Remedy Ultra but I haven't priced it out yet. Anyone know if it works well in cooler fall temps?

Had the same brush problem before so I switched from Crossbow to Remedy Ultra last fall and mixed it with diesel. It worked well, even when it got cold. Just spray the bottom of the tree, no need to hit the leaves. It's a good way to save money and still keep your grass safe.

Remedy Ultra can work in cooler fall temps, but aim for daytime highs above 50°F and actively growing plants.

Remedy Ultra can save you money compared to Crossbow, mostly when you're dealing with trees and shrubs. Crossbow's got triclopyr and 2,4-D, which is good for killing broadleaf weeds but can be tough on grass. Remedy Ultra is easier on grass, so it's a solid pick around your hay fields.

All of you have confirmed what my cousin was saying about Remedy Ultra. I'm interested in the basal spray method with diesel for the honeysuckle and small trees.

For @absentkid_90 what mix ratio do you typically use for an application like that? I'll watch the forecast for a warm stretch and plan to get it done next week.

I do not recommend using Crossbow. Based on my experience it is often more forgiving for broadleaf weeds in mixed stands. This is why I switched to Remedy Ultra.

@Dean Devereaux the ratio mix depends on if you plan for spot treatment or if you plan to spray the entire plant.

Here's a copy of the complete instructions.

This PDF with the complete instructions is exactly what I needed! I see the label recommends a 20-30% mix for basal spray, so I'll start on the lower end of that for the honeysuckle and small trees.

The weather forecast for this coming week looks warm enough to get the job done. I'll report back in a few weeks with the results.

Wow, really helpful responses here. Sure seems like this remedy ultra has a lot of fans. @urSp0il3r thanks for helping with that pdf. Over to you now @Dean Devereaux we would love an update on this status quo, I'm really looking forward now, really betting on this remedy ultra
