Everybody hypes discbines like they're the only way to cut hay, but I'm not convinced they're worth it unless you're mowing huge acres or running custom. My fields are 10 acres, rocky in spots, and I cut just for myself. Dealer wants my old JD 720 MOCO for $1250 toward a new machine, but those discbines aren't cheap... and hitting rocks with one isn't my idea of fun.
Truth is, sickle machines are still everywhere and cost next to nothing. For the way I run, I'm not sure shaving a little time off each cut justifies dropping that kind of cash. Anyone else stick with sickle machines in 2025 and not feel like you're missing out? Or did making the jump to a discbine actually change your whole haying game?
