Fertilizer timing for southern lawns & pastures?

I read before going here, trust me, but Clemson's guidelines say February. I'm thinking about getting mine now... is that viable? For those of you in the South, how early do you usually spread? I need help, please.

August is a great time to establish cool-season grasses in the South, especially when there's plenty of moisture. According to Clemson guidelines, spreading in February prepares the grass for robust spring growth, helping it get ready for the challenges of summer.

You can start a bit earlier than February if the weather is mild, but spreading too early can risk seeds sitting in cold soil and not germinating well. Aim for late January to early February, but checking local soil temps and recent frost patterns helps a lot
