I had planned to cut and bale the field myself this fall, keeping the stubble at about 4 inches like usual to protect it through winter but unfortunately, the landowner had a different idea and went over it with a riding mower, scalping it right down, not exactly part of the plan. At this point, there’s nothing to do but wait for spring, but I can’t help wondering how much damage might have been done cos I know a lot will depend on the winter temperatures and whether we get a decent blanket of snow to protect what’s left, but I’m hoping it’s not as bad as I’m imagining.
Has anyone here dealt with a similar situation? if yes, how did your fields bounce back after a too short cut going into winter?
