Appreciate the wisdom! Pausing between forward and reverse sounds like a great way to keep things smooth. Did you find it tricky to master at 1st or was it just a matter of practice?when i was new i was told that's the rite of passage)))) seriously though, try easing into the gear changes with a little pause between forward and reverse. that saves the clutch and your back!!
Use the clutch smoothly and fully engage it before shifting! Make sure you're doing at lower RPMs. Agree with @k.idmnt66 you gotta do it slowly. It's a matter of practice! Not really difficult to master at first but tricky.

for hydraulic shuttles, it's mostly about easing off the throttle a bit as you shift from forward to reverse. That's the trick to keeping it smooth and saving your clutch
Thanks for adding that tip. After spending a couple of months in the seat, I've found that easing off the throttle is a big piece of the puzzle for a smooth shift. It's all starting to become second nature now.
