Switching from grass to alfalfa

So, I'm switching things up this year and going with straight alfalfa instead of my usual grass mix. I'm trying to figure out how much seed I actually need to use. I don't want to overdo it and waste money if 10–12 lb/acre will do the trick. Has anyone tried this and seen good results?

Yep, 10 to 12 acre of straight alfalfa is usually plenty for good stand establishment. Make sure your soil's pH and fertility are on point though because alfalfa hates acidic soils

Trust me, spending that extra $30-40 per acre on seeds is worth it. It can be the gamechanger between a great yield and a disappointing one that needs replanting. So don't go cheap on seeds, they're the backbone of your entire crop.

For solid coverage, I'd go with 12-14 lbs/acre. Spending a bit more on those extra seeds is worth it, as it helps get things growing strong and keeps weeds away.

If you seed light, you'll regret it. Thin stand = weeds moving in fast. Most guys around here shoot for 15–20 lbs/acre depending on soil prep. Ten will sprout, sure, but you'll be overseeding again before long.
