I'm definitely considering increasing my crop insurance and revenue protection after last year's drought. The deadline is approaching, are any of you changing your coverage based on the current trends in forecasts?

I know that the forecasts are important, but they're not a crystal ball. I always look at my specific risk factors.
How is the soil moisture on my land right now? What did the last soil test say? How much did my last crop remove from the soil?
The best bet is to combine the long term forecast with your on the ground reality.
I think it's wise to check the local agricultural extension office or a trusted agronomist, they can often give you more tailored advice than a national forecast

I'm in Central California and upped my coverage this year. Last summer's drought hit my second cut hard, so I didn't want to take chances. I added Whole-Farm Protection and checked out the extra coverage too. What kind of hay do you grow? That can help pick the right plan.
